Hormuz cools, Peru splits narrowly

Gulf truce steadies oil as courts curb Trump and Europe counts heat deaths

The past half day brought less panic in oil markets, more heat stress in Europe and another batch of rulings from a US Supreme Court that still likes to surprise both sides. Politics also cut fine: Peru picked a president by fewer than 50,000 votes, while companies and governments tried to redraw themselves for a costlier, more AI-driven world.

Romania forecast: 40°C heatwave to break with storms before temperatures climb again

Romania's National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued forecasts on 29 June covering up to four weeks, warning of a heatwave with maximums around 40°C, followed by a cooling period with storms and hail, and then a gradual return to high temperatures.

Heatwave under red and orange alerts

Romania entered a two-day heatwave on 29 June, with the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issuing red and orange alerts for extreme temperatures. Maximum temperatures were expected to average around 40 degrees Celsius across many areas, with particularly high values in Banat and Crișana. The heat was forecast to persist through 30 June, causing significant thermal discomfort.

Cooling and storms from 2 July

After 30 June, a gradual cooling process begins. Between 1 and 7 July, average maximum temperatures are forecast to fall to between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius, closer to normal for the period. A high probability of rainfall, storms, and hail is forecast for 2-4 July, particularly in western regions like Banat and Crișana. Nighttime lows will also drop, with minima around 14 to 18 degrees Celsius in the second week.

Temperatures climb again after 7 July

From 7 July onward, temperatures are expected to rise gradually. By 11 and 12 July, average maxima could again reach 35 degrees Celsius, potentially bringing another heatwave. The forecast indicates that the weather will become warm, possibly hot, with the highest values in the west and center of the country.

Extended dry and hot outlook for the rest of July

A longer-range forecast for the four weeks from 29 June suggests that after the first week's excess rainfall in the west and south, the weeks of 13-20 July and 20-27 July will see temperature averages above normal across the whole country, with a pronounced rainfall deficit. This points to a dry and hot second half of July.
