Extreme heat forecast for France vs England World Cup play-off in Miami
Temperatures near 90F and a heat index of 102F are expected for the third-place play-off at Hard Rock Stadium, with a low chance of storms.
The World Cup third-place play-off between France and England at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami is set to be played in extreme heat, with temperatures near 90F (32C) and a heat index of 102F (39C). The match kicks off at 5pm ET under mostly sunny skies, with only a 20 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms, according to a forecast provided by Aaron Mentkowski, chief meteorologist at WKBW-TV Buffalo.
Thunderstorms have already disrupted the tournament. Spain's final training session before the final was delayed today due to lightning in New Jersey. Under the tournament's thunderstorm protocol, a match is suspended if lightning is detected within an eight-mile radius, triggering a 30-minute countdown that resets with each new strike. On June 22, the group-stage game between France and Iraq became the first World Cup match delayed by storms, stopping for more than two hours.
