Hamburg Airport security zone evacuated amid police operation, passengers removed from aircraft
Federal police cleared the security area of Hamburg Airport on Thursday morning, ordering all passengers to leave and deplaning those already seated on aircraft, after reports of a 'police situation.'
Evacuation order
German federal police ordered the evacuation of Hamburg Airport's security area on 12 June 2026 after what a spokesperson described as a "police situation." All passengers behind security checkpoints were told to leave, and those who had already boarded aircraft were made to disembark. The airport's terminal building was also subject to a subsequent search expected to last several hours, according to the Bundespolizei.
Disruption to flights
While incoming flights were still landing at the time of the incident, it remained unclear whether scheduled departures would proceed. The disruption affected travelers at gates and on board planes, with the entire secure zone cleared. The Norddeutscher Rundfunk reported that all people were required to leave the airport, and other outlets, citing the federal police, confirmed that passengers were being removed from aircraft already preparing for departure. Authorities have not yet provided an estimate for when normal operations might resume.
