Barcelona to invest 2.7 million euros in redesign of Artesania Street in Guineueta
Barcelona city council has approved a 2.7 million euro project to widen pavements, improve accessibility and add green space on Artesania Street in the Nou Barris district.
The investment
The Barcelona city council will spend 2.7 million euros on remodelling Artesania Street (carrer de l'Artesania) in the Guineueta neighbourhood. The project covers roughly 4,800 square metres of public space between Via Júlia and Ponce de León, with work expected to begin in early 2027 and finish during the second half of the same year.
The Government Commission has given initial approval. The scheme now passes through a public information period before going out to tender. Funding comes from the Municipal Investment Programme (PIM) 2024‑2027, a citywide package exceeding 1.9 billion euros.
What will change
Sidewalks will be widened, street furniture relocated, and the forecourts of local shops and homes reorganised. The main design move extends the adjacent Parc de la Guineueta right up to Artesania Street, bringing new trees and a continuous green corridor into the neighbourhood.
It is the best proof of the firm commitment we maintain to modernise our neighbourhoods and guarantee that residents have more space to walk comfortably.
The councillor described the street as a vital link between the Verdum, Guineueta and Canyelles districts, with heavy footfall and strong commercial activity.
Other works in the district
Artesania Street is one of ten Nou Barris streets scheduled for renewal before the end of the municipal term. The district is also seeing a 9 million euro restoration of the Can Carreres farmhouse, which will house a municipal nursery and a child and adolescent support team. In the neighbouring Prosperitat area, 1.15 million euros has been earmarked to overhaul the green spaces of Plaza Ángel Pestaña.
