Rockstar partners with Netflix for GTA VI extended look premiere on August 27
Rockstar Games will premiere an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI on Netflix on August 27, 2026, with a six-hour exclusivity window before the content reaches YouTube, ahead of the game's November 19 launch.
Netflix lands GTA VI reveal
Rockstar Games will premiere "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, 2026, giving the streaming platform a six-hour exclusive window before the content appears on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the game's official website. The Netflix premiere is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET (8 p.m. BST, 9 p.m. in Italy, France and Belgium, 8 p.m. in Lisbon), with the YouTube release following at 9 p.m. ET, which translates to 3 a.m. on August 28 in Italy, France and Belgium and 2 a.m. in Lisbon. The partnership marks the first time Rockstar has chosen a streaming service over traditional games-industry channels for a reveal of this kind.
Brandon Riegg, Netflix's vice president of nonfiction series, framed the deal as part of the platform's broader ambition.
Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we're honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first.
What the extended look may contain
Two trailers for GTA VI have been released so far, the first in December 2023 and the second roughly a year later, but neither showed actual gameplay footage. The "extended look" is expected to change that, with Netflix promising a broad preview that could include the first real gameplay sequences. Rockstar has not confirmed the duration or exact content of the presentation. The announcement came with new artwork showing the game's co-protagonists, Lucia and Jason, wearing balaclavas in front of a gas station.
The game is set in a reimagined Vice City and follows Jason and Lucia. The official synopsis states that "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them" and that "when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida, forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."
Launch details and pricing
Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, more than 13 years after Grand Theft Auto V was released in 2013. The base game will start at $79.99, while the Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition will cost $99.99. Grand Theft Auto V was $10 cheaper at launch. The Ultimate Edition includes "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story," according to Rockstar.
- GTA VI Base Edition
- 79.99 $
- GTA VI Ultimate Edition
- 99.99 $
Pre-orders opened at the end of June 2026. Physical retail copies will contain only a download code inside the box rather than a disc, a decision that has drawn criticism from retailers and second-hand market enthusiasts. A PC release is expected to follow, potentially a couple of years after the console launch, based on Rockstar's pattern with previous titles.
Scale of anticipation
The first GTA VI trailer, published in December 2023, accumulated more than 55 million views in 10 hours and approximately 90 to 100 million views within 24 hours. The game's estimated budget of 2 billion euros makes it the most expensive entertainment product ever produced. Its predecessor, GTA V, has sold 230 million copies, making it the third best-selling game of all time.

- Second trailer released (approximately one year before extended look announcement)
- Pre-orders open at the end of June

Video game expert Ron Vorstermans told AD.nl that players have "blind confidence" in Rockstar because the studio "almost never disappoints."
