New wildfires erupt in Greece's Corinthia region; crews tackle blazes in Loutraki and Methana
Firefighters responded to three separate blazes in the Loutraki area and on the Methana peninsula on Saturday, deploying ground crews and helicopters to contain the forest fires.
Schinos fire
A wildfire broke out around 9:15 a.m. on Saturday in a forested area near Schinos, within the Loutraki-Perachora-Agioi Theodoroi municipality in Corinthia. The fire started in rocky, hard-to-reach terrain but did not threaten any inhabited areas, according to the fire service. A total of 25 firefighters were mobilised, accompanied by a foot team from the 9th Special Unit for Forest Operations (EMODE), 8 vehicles, and 1 helicopter. Local volunteers also assisted in containing the flames.
Skalosia fire
Later that morning, a second fire broke out in the Skalosia area of the same municipality, burning through forest land. The fire service deployed 27 firefighters, another foot team from the 9th EMODE, 8 vehicles, and 1 helicopter. Additional support came from volunteers and water tankers provided by the local authority. The response was immediate, mirroring the earlier operation in Schinos.
Methana fire
A separate fire was reported on the Methana peninsula, where forested land was also ablaze. Firefighting units and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene. No details were immediately available on the extent of that fire.

Across the three incidents, no injuries or damage to property were reported by midday Saturday. The fire service noted that the rugged geography of the region complicated access but emphasised that residential zones remained safe. The blazes underscored a busy start to the summer fire season in Greece, with emergency services maintaining heightened readiness.
