Călin Georgescu accuses TV station of censorship in tense on-air row with former supporter Anca Alexandrescu
A live interview on Realitatea Plus descended into confrontation as former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu accused moderator Anca Alexandrescu, once a vocal backer, of backing the wrong government and having his past statements censored by her station.
Censorship allegation
The dispute began when Georgescu claimed that Realitatea Plus had previously censored an appeal he made against the government. He repeated part of that message on air, stating that he considers any vote for the existing, "illegitimate" government a betrayal. The moderator denied being present during the earlier broadcast, prompting Georgescu to clarify that he was referring to the television station, not her personally.
Every vote given to the illegitimate government of the existing president is an act of treason against the country's interests.
Clash over the Veștea government
Alexandrescu acknowledged that she had supported Adrian Veștea, who was designated prime minister during the government crisis, arguing her motivation was to block the influence of former premier Ilie Bolojan. Georgescu immediately countered that she had "completely wrong" judgment and insisted that Veștea, along with Eugen Tomac, represented the same political direction as Bolojan.
It is the same Mary with a different hat. There is no difference.
I supported Veștea to get rid of Bolojan.
The exchange grew sharper when Georgescu suggested that Alexandrescu's positioning was driven by ratings, not conviction.
Attacks on Bolojan and President Nicușor Dan
Georgescu directed some of his harshest language at Ilie Bolojan, calling him "the definition of anti-Romanianism" and accusing him of ruining the Romanian economy and favouring foreign companies. He also blamed President Nicușor Dan, saying Dan was directly responsible for the current "disaster" because he appointed Bolojan.
The definition of anti-Romanianism is called Ilie Bolojan. If you look in the dictionary and can't find what anti-Romanianism means, it is Ilie Bolojan.
Conspiracy theories and historical claims
During the same broadcast, Georgescu linked recent political events to a disputed interpretation of the December 1989 revolution, calling it a "coup d'état," and later drew a connection between decades of abortions and the annulment of the previous presidential election. He also praised the AUR party as the first to show "moral attitude" in Romanian politics in 36 years.
Alexandrescu under pressure
The tense interview took place as Alexandrescu faces pushback from parts of the sovereignist camp. Supporters of Georgescu have criticised her for endorsing what they see as unacceptable political figures, and some social-media messages have even threatened a boycott of her programmes.
