Four killed, including 12-year-old girl, in BMW rollover on road between Sztum and Postolin
A BMW carrying five people rolled over and struck an embankment on a road between Sztum and Postolin early Saturday, killing four passengers, including a 12-year-old girl. The 22-year-old driver survived and was hospitalized.
The crash
Emergency services were alerted before 5 a.m. on Saturday, 4 July, to a severely damaged car on the road between Sztum and Postolin in Pomerania. A BMW with five occupants had left the roadway on a curve, rolled over, and hit a roadside embankment or culvert. Four people died at the scene; the 22-year-old male driver was taken to hospital with injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that the 22-year-old BMW driver likely failed to adjust speed to road conditions on a curve, veered onto the shoulder, the car rolled over, and unfortunately four young people died. The youngest victim is a 12-year-old girl.
Victims
All four fatalities were young residents of the Sztum district. The youngest was a 12-year-old girl. The driver, the sole survivor, sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. No other vehicles were involved.
Investigation
Police officers from the Sztum District Police are working at the scene under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Kwidzyn. They are securing evidence and documenting the site to determine the exact cause of the crash. The road surface and weather conditions at the time are being examined, though initial statements point to excessive speed on a bend.
Traffic disruptions
The Postolin–Sztum road is expected to remain blocked for several hours. Police have advised drivers to expect delays and use alternative routes. The Volunteer Fire Brigade in Postolin confirmed the closure and warned of extended disruption.
Traffic disruptions may occur in the area of the incident.
