A woman died on Saturday night in Algeciras, Spain, when a Moroccan flag she was wearing became entangled in the rear wheel of the motorcycle she was riding as a passenger, causing a crash. The accident occurred as she and her husband were celebrating Morocco's victory over Canada in the 2026 World Cup round of 16.
A fatal motorcycle accident in the southern Spanish city of Algeciras has left a woman dead and prompted a police investigation, after a flag she was carrying during World Cup celebrations got caught in the vehicle's wheel.

According to initial police findings, she was wearing a Moroccan flag, either tied around her waist or around her neck (reports differ), and the fabric became trapped in the rear wheel, causing the motorcycle to overturn. Emergency response
Local Police officers were the first to arrive and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, using a semi-automatic external defibrillator from their patrol car, but were unable to revive her. Emergency medical services continued the efforts and transported the woman to the emergency department of Hospital Punta Europa, where her death was confirmed shortly after arrival. The 112 Andalusia emergency service had activated Police, Civil Guard, and health personnel upon receiving the alert.

The Algeciras Local Police have opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the crash. As part of standard procedure, officers from the accident investigation unit administered a breathalyser test to the driver, the victim's husband, which returned a result of 0.0 milligrams of alcohol per litre of exhaled air. No other immediate causes have been disclosed.
