Five suspects arrested in France over armed robbery at Alain Prost's Lake Geneva home
French authorities have arrested five suspects, including two minors, in connection with the May armed robbery at the Swiss home of four-time Formula 1 world champion Alain Prost.
The robbery
In May 2026, several masked intruders forced their way into Alain Prost's residence in Nyon, on the shores of Lake Geneva. The 71-year-old former racing driver was at home with his family when the armed assailants entered. During the confrontation, Prost sustained a minor head injury. The attackers threatened the family and compelled one of Prost's sons to open a safe inside the house. They fled with the safe's contents, which included multiple luxury watches, and escaped across the border into France.
The arrests
Roughly six weeks later, in early July, French police arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery. The prosecutor's office in Pontoise, near Paris, confirmed the arrests and identified the suspects as being aged 16, 17, 21 and 22. Two of them are minors and have been placed under judicial supervision, while the three adults were remanded in pre-trial detention. The charges include armed robbery, deprivation of liberty and forming a criminal association. If convicted, the suspects face sentences of up to 30 years in prison.
Investigation
Swiss authorities had been working with French criminal investigators from Versailles after evidence pointed to suspects in the greater Paris area. The cross-border cooperation led to the arrests at the beginning of July. The prosecutor's office stated that the stolen items, notably the luxury watches, were part of the safe's contents. No details have been released about whether any of the stolen property has been recovered.

After retiring, Prost ran his own racing team and later served as an advisor to the Alpine F1 team until early 2022. He is also a well-known watch collector and has been a brand ambassador for Richard Mille since 2017.
