
47-year-old driver dies after train hits car at level crossing in Suceava

A 47-year-old man died on Sunday morning after a passenger train struck his car at a level crossing in the village of Prelipca, Suceava county, according to the Suceava Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU). The collision occurred around 07:00 local time on 12 July 2026.
Accident details
The accident involved a passenger train and a passenger car at a railway level crossing. The exact circumstances that led the car to be on the tracks at the moment of impact have not yet been determined. The ISU Suceava confirmed the location as Prelipca, a commune in north-eastern Romania.
Emergency response
Firefighters were dispatched with an extrication vehicle and a SMURD ambulance, joined by two crews from the county ambulance service (SAJ). On arrival, responders found the victim already outside the vehicle, unconscious and without vital signs. Medical and paramedical staff immediately began resuscitation efforts.

Unfortunately, the victim, a 47-year-old man, did not respond to the medical protocol and was pronounced dead.
Despite the rapid intervention, the driver did not regain consciousness and was declared dead at the scene. The authorities have not released the man’s identity, pending family notification.

The precise cause of the collision is under investigation by authorities. Level crossings in rural Romania are sometimes unguarded or lack functioning warning systems, but no immediate information was provided about the crossing’s equipment. The train operator and the railway infrastructure manager are expected to cooperate with the inquiry.
