The collision
On Sunday, 19 July 2026, at 7:30 am, an EKAB ambulance transporting a patient collided with a private car at the intersection outside DEYACH on Mourión Avenue in Chania, Crete. The ambulance was heading to Chania General Hospital "Agios Georgios". The impact was severe, causing the ambulance to overturn. The patient, a man who had suffered cardiac arrest, was receiving CPR from a paramedic at the moment of the crash.

Rescue and casualties
The Fire Service dispatched three vehicles to the scene and extricated the occupants. The patient was found unconscious and later pronounced dead. Hospital director George Beas told Cretalive that the patient died from cardiac arrest.
