Explosives used in failed bank raid in Casinos, Valencia
A gang of thieves used explosives to break into a CaixaBank branch in the Valencian town of Casinos early Saturday, but fled without stealing any money.
Early morning blast
Around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, a gang of thieves detonated explosives at a CaixaBank branch in Casinos, a town in the province of Valencia. The blast allowed them to force entry into the office. The number of individuals involved remains unknown.
No money taken
Despite successfully breaching the bank, the assailants were unable to extract any cash from the branch’s safes, according to the Guardia Civil. The explosives caused structural damage inside the premises.
Police response
Specialist TEDAX officers from the Guardia Civil arrived later that morning to inspect the ATM and secure the scene. The Judicial Police of Llíria has opened an investigation to identify the suspects and determine how the explosives were obtained.
Collateral damage
In addition to the bank’s interior, a parked car nearby was damaged by the explosion. No injuries have been reported.
