Police officer weeps in Fabian murder trial: 'He was disposed of like trash'
On the 18th day of the trial, a police officer broke down describing the body of 8-year-old Fabian, while defendant Gina H. showed no emotion and her statements appeared 'rehearsed'.
Emotional testimony
On the 18th day of the trial at the Rostock Regional Court, a police officer who was among the first at the scene where Fabian's body was found gave emotional testimony. She paused, her voice breaking, and described the discovery as a shock situation.
The officer said she later sought help to cope with the experience. He was disposed of like trash. I'm sorry if I have to say it like that.
Defendant's demeanor
The same officer testified that defendant Gina H., who led police to the body on 14 October 2025, appeared cooperative and talkative but not emotionally shaken. Her statements were "very clear and distinctly formulated" and seemed rehearsed. When asked by presiding judge Holger Schütt whether any moments of deep emotional distress were visible, the officer answered: "No." The defendant had asked for a chaplain, which the officer felt was an attempt to compensate for her lack of emotion.
Financial motive
Voice messages played in court revealed Gina H.'s financial dependence on Fabian's father, with whom she had been in a four-year relationship until he ended it in August 2025. In an April 2025 message, she said:
Without his money, she could not afford a tractor, feed for her five horses, or her loan. She told an acquaintance she needed to "find a rich man." Prosecutors believe she killed Fabian because she saw him as an obstacle to winning back his father and maintaining her lifestyle. It's terrible that you can blackmail me, that I would lose everything.
Father's reaction
Fabian's father learned of the body's discovery from the media on 14 October, not from the defendant. When he appeared at the family home that day, he was visibly emotional and had been drinking. He told police he would "trust her with anything." Phone records showed the defendant had been in constant contact with him after the breakup, but she did not inform him about the body, instead complaining about his contact with other women.
Next steps
The defendant has remained silent so far but is scheduled to speak on 24 August. Her defense lawyer, Thomas Löcker, announced that she is revoking the waiver of confidentiality for her family doctor, meaning the doctor cannot testify. The trial continues on Thursday with testimony from medical experts.
