Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, announced the name of their third child on 17 August 2026, two weeks after her birth in Lisbon. The couple revealed that their daughter, born in a Portuguese hospital on 3 August 2026, is named Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Eugenie, the 36-year-old daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, and niece of King Charles III, shared the news alongside three photographs on social media. The images featured the newborn wrapped in a light blue blanket and being held by her older brothers, August, aged five, and Ernest, aged three, whom Eugenie described as already the best big brothers. The couple waited two weeks to make the public announcement, repeating a practice from 2021 when they also took several days after the birth of their elder son August before sharing his name.

The chosen names connect the child to British royal history and Portuguese culture, reflecting what Eugenie described as tributes to three individuals from the past and present. The middle name, Elizabeth, honors the child's late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died on 8 September 2022. The tribute follows a family tradition established by Eugenie's sister, Princess Beatrice, whose daughters Sienna and Athena also carry Elizabeth as a middle name.

Eugenie previously referenced Queen Adelaide during her 2018 wedding reception by wearing diamond wheat-sheaf hair brooches commissioned by William IV for Adelaide in 1830. The third name, Annina, represents a personal connection to an individual close to the couple, though the family has not publicly identified the person.

Life in Portugal and succession

Adelaide is the first British royal infant born in Portugal and only the third royal child in the past 100 years born outside the United Kingdom. The most recent preceding instance was Prince Harry and Meghan's daughter Lilibet, who was born in California. The delivery in Lisbon reflects the family's routine, as Eugenie and Brooksbank divide their time between the United Kingdom and Portugal because Brooksbank works at a luxury resort in the Melides region. Despite being born abroad, Adelaide occupies 15th place in the line of succession to the British throne.
