Bellingham brace in extra time sinks Norway and sends England into World Cup semi-finals
Jude Bellingham scored twice, including a 93rd-minute winner, as England beat a resilient Norway 2-1 after extra time in Miami to reach the last four of the 2026 World Cup.
Norway strikes first
After a cautious opening half-hour in Miami, Norway seized the initiative. Erling Haaland produced the first shot on target with a header in the 33rd minute, and three minutes later Andreas Schjelderup broke the deadlock. The winger, brought into the starting lineup for Antonio Nusa, cut inside from the left, created space against Ezri Konsa, and unleashed a strike that flew over Jordan Pickford and in off the post.
The ball flew over Jordan Pickford's head and bounced off the post into the goal.
England looked stunned by the setback, and for several minutes struggled to regain composure against Stale Solbakken's disciplined side.
Bellingham responds before the break
Thomas Tuchel's team found a lifeline deep in first-half stoppage time. Anthony Gordon slipped a pass to Jude Bellingham just outside the Norwegian penalty area, and the Real Madrid midfielder drove into the box before beating goalkeeper Örjan Nyland with a low shot. The equaliser was not without controversy: the ball had grazed a camera cable near the goal shortly after a goal kick, raising questions about whether play should have been stopped.

Extra-time decider
Less than three minutes into the first period of extra time, England landed the decisive blow. Morgan Rogers fired a central long-range effort that Nyland could only parry forward. Bellingham reacted quickest to the rebound and slotted home his second goal of the night, replicating the brace he had scored against Mexico in the round of 16.
Jude Bellingham stopped Norway's winning run and shot England into the World Cup semi-finals.
Norway, who had pushed England to the limit, gradually ran out of steam. Against a deep-lying English defence, Solbakken's men created no further danger. Erling Haaland was substituted in the second half of extra time for Jörgen Strand Larsen, who could not alter the momentum.

They will face either reigning champions Argentina or Switzerland on 15 July in Atlanta. Norway's campaign ends in the quarter-finals, still the country's best World Cup performance since reaching the last 16 in 1998.
