Elversberg signs Campbell from Dortmund for club-record €6 million fee
SV Elversberg have signed American forward Cole Campbell from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around €6 million, making him the most expensive player in the promoted club's history.
The transfer details
Borussia Dortmund have sold attacking player Cole Campbell to Bundesliga newcomers SV Elversberg. The American youth international has signed a contract until the summer of 2030, while his Dortmund deal had been set to run until 2028. Sky reports that Dortmund retain a buy-back clause. The transfer fee is around six million euros, a sum that eclipses the 1.6 million euros Elversberg paid Hamburger SV for Lukasz Poreba and makes Campbell the club's record signing.

Campbell's path to Elversberg
Campbell joined Dortmund in 2022 but never broke into the first team. At the start of 2026 he was loaned to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, where he managed only five brief appearances. The 21-year-old now hopes for regular playing time in the Saarland. Elversberg gained promotion to the Bundesliga for the 2026–27 season and are building a squad to compete at the top level.
What they said
With Cole we sign another highly talented player who will help us enormously with his exceptional pace and his one-on-one abilities. We have been trying to get him for a longer period and are very happy that he decided for us.
The talks with the responsible people were from the beginning very open and have developed just as positively. I have the feeling that I am coming into an exciting team with a lot of potential and where I can contribute well.
Elversberg's ambition
The record outlay signals Elversberg's intent to establish themselves in the Bundesliga. Campbell's arrival follows the club's first-ever promotion to the top flight, and the investment in a young international forward suggests they are willing to spend to stay there.
