Edinburgh Airport partially evacuated on Friday evening after a suspicious package was found, then reopened around 3am on Saturday after a bomb disposal all-clear. Schedules remain affected.
The alert
A potentially suspicious package was discovered at Edinburgh Airport at about 6:50pm on Friday, 19 June. Police Scotland treated the find as a precaution and ordered an evacuation of parts of the terminal building. Roads around the airport were closed and a cordon put in place while specialist teams responded.
Evacuation and response
An explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team was deployed to examine the items. At 8:44pm the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted and sent three fire appliances and three specialist resources to assist. Crews remained on scene past 10:50pm. By 11pm the airport said the situation was ongoing and parts of the terminal remained partially evacuated.

Reopening and disruption
Shortly after 3am on Saturday the airport confirmed it had reopened after investigations by specialist teams. Police said the items had been made safe and the incident was not being treated as suspicious. The airport warned that flight schedules would continue to be affected throughout Saturday.
