Dziki Warszawa defeat Energa Trefl Sopot 102:63 in Polish league opener
Dziki Warszawa secured a 102:63 victory against Energa Trefl Sopot in the first round of the PGE Basket Liga, driven by 21 points from Quanterrius Jackson.
Decisive season opener in Sopot
Dziki Warszawa defeated Energa Trefl Sopot 102:63 in the opening round of the PGE Basket Liga at Hala 100-lecia. The matchup revisited the previous season's playoff quarter-final series, in which Trefl levelled the contest with an 81:78 victory in Game 2, though both rosters changed significantly during the offseason. Dziki, who claimed bronze medals last season, competed without departed players Landrius Horton and Darnell Edge, while Trefl saw the departures of Paul Scruggs and Kasper Suurorg. For this opener, Energa Trefl played without guard Michał Michalak due to a knee hyperextension suffered in the Polish Supercup semi-finals, alongside Szymon Nowicki, who is sidelined with a patella injury. Recent American signing Carter Gilmore joined the bench following his arrival in the Trójmiasto area but remained unavailable to play, while Dziki competed without Zane Waterman after surgery on an injured finger.
First-half resistance and third-quarter collapse
The contest began with Dziki opening on a 5:0 run before Tobias Rotegard and Trey Anderson scored Trefl's initial baskets. Free throws from Jakub Schenk tied the score at 7:7, followed by a basket from Perttu Blomgren that gave Trefl an 8:7 advantage. Schenk repeatedly attacked the paint to push the home lead to 13:9 and converted a three-point play for an 18:16 edge, but a basket from Łukasz Frąckiewicz and a Quanterrius Jackson dunk helped the visitors establish a 25:20 lead by the end of the first quarter. Grzegorz Kamiński continually found space from the perimeter and along the baseline as Dziki expanded the margin to 51:39 at halftime. In the third quarter, Trefl's offense stalled completely, scoring only eight points against 26 from Warsaw to put the game out of reach.

Rebounding disparity and perimeter struggles
Dziki dominated the statistics across the floor, finishing with 26 assists, 12 steals, and 20 offensive rebounds over 40 minutes of play. Trefl struggled with perimeter shooting, converting only 18% of their three-point attempts across the game as Kacper Marchewka and Szymon Kiejzik missed open attempts. The Warsaw club repeatedly turned second-chance opportunities into points, while Trefl failed to generate secondary scoring options behind their starting backcourt. After the final whistle, Trefl center Szymon Zapała highlighted the physical difference and rebounding deficit as the defining factors in the loss.
When you lose by 40 points, you cannot talk about one thing or one mistake. Many factors contributed. Dziki imposed an aggressive style of play on both offense and defense and collected 20 offensive rebounds. To stay in the game, we cannot allow our opponent to grab 20 offensive rebounds.
Individual performances and fourth-quarter ejection
Jackson led Dziki's scoring with 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block in under 19 minutes on the floor. Kamiński scored 19 points with six assists, while Krzysztof Kempa contributed 15 points and six rebounds, Makai Ashton added 14 points, and Joseph Girard III scored 11. Schenk served as Trefl's only double-digit scorer with 20 points and six assists, but he also recorded 10 turnovers during the game. Midway through the fourth quarter, Jackson stole the ball from Schenk for a fast-break finish, prompting a timeout from Trefl coach Krzysztof Roszyk. Moments later, Schenk struck Jackson with an elbow in the lower abdomen, leading Dziki coach Marco Legovich to request a video review that resulted in a disqualifying foul against the Trefl captain.
