Mob beats two teenagers in Dresden, paints slogans on victim's body; state security probes left-wing link
Two 15-year-old boys were beaten and had political slogans painted on their torsos by a group of around 20 attackers in Dresden's heath. State security suspects a politically motivated crime from the left-wing spectrum.
The attack
On the afternoon of 15 June 2026, two 15-year-old boys were ambushed by a group of approximately 20 people in the Dresdner Heide, a large forest and heathland area on the northern edge of Dresden. The attackers punched and kicked the victims repeatedly, according to a police statement. During the assault, the group demanded that one of the boys remove his T-shirt. After taking the shirt, they painted two written slogans directly onto his upper body. The police have not revealed the wording or the exact political nature of the slogans, citing the ongoing investigation.
Injuries
Both victims suffered injuries that required hospital treatment. The police did not provide details on the severity of the injuries, but they confirmed that the two teenagers were taken to a local hospital for care. The extent of their physical recovery is not yet known.
Police response and suspects
Following the attack, police launched a search operation in the Dresden area. Officers located and arrested three male suspects, all aged 16. One of the detained youths was found to be carrying a folding knife. The three suspects are being questioned, and the police have not ruled out further arrests. The investigation is now being led by the state security division, indicating the authorities consider the crime politically motivated.
Political context
The police explicitly stated they are pursuing a line of inquiry pointing to a left-wing political motive. The involvement of the Staatsschutz, which handles politically motivated crimes, underscores the seriousness of the incident. The motives, including why the victims were targeted and what the painted slogans signified, remain under investigation. The incident adds to a series of politically charged assaults in eastern Germany, though authorities have not yet drawn connections to other cases.
