Trump strains Hormuz as Europe rearms and US politics loses a sanctions hawk

The serious news clustered around force and its price. Washington and Tehran traded blows around the Gulf, Europe put military solidarity on parade in Paris, and political shocks in Washington and Madrid complicated already fragile coalitions.

HBO Drops Final 'House of the Dragon' Season 3 Trailer, Promising an All-Out War Opening with the 'Craziest Episode Ever'

The final trailer for the third season of 'House of the Dragon' has been released, showcasing a brutal, large-scale civil war that will begin with the highly anticipated Battle of the Gullet when the series returns in June.

HBO Max has unveiled the final, action-packed trailer for the third season of 'House of the Dragon', confirming the Targaryen civil war will escalate from political scheming to full-scale, devastating warfare. The new season, premiering on June 21 on HBO and June 22 in markets like Spain and Portugal, will consist of eight episodes released weekly, concluding on August 10.

The Battle of the Gullet Opens the Season

After a second season that was criticized by some for delaying the major conflict, the third season will hit the ground running with the Battle of the Gullet. This naval clash in Blackwater Bay is set to be the centerpiece of the season premiere. Showrunner Ryan Condal has set high expectations, calling it "arguably the craziest episode of television ever made."

This is a huge season. It's the biggest we've made by any margin and by a wide measure.

— Ryan Condal

A War of Dragons and Fire

The trailer leaves no doubt that diplomacy is dead. It depicts a landscape of battlefield carnage, burning fleets, and dragons lighting up the sky. Rhaenyra Targaryen, having declared war, is seen moving to besiege King's Landing and check the "usurper" Aegon. The footage shows multiple dragons, including Syrax and Caraxes, flying over the capital, while the streets are filled with brutal close-quarters combat and smear campaigns against Rhaenyra's rule.

It's bigger and more ferocious than before. It starts off with a bang: the first two episodes were essentially supposed to be our finale last year, so you can just imagine that sort of energy.

— Olivia Cooke

The Cast and Crew Return

Much of the main cast is returning, including Emma D'Arcy as Rhaenyra, Matt Smith as Daemon, and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower. They are joined by a large ensemble of returning actors such as Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, and Tom Glynn-Carney. The new season also introduces several new faces to Westeros, including James Norton as Ormund Hightower, Tommy Flanagan as Ser Roderick Dustin, and Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly.

The Beginning of the End

Based on George R.R. Martin's 'Fire & Blood' and set 200 years before 'Game of Thrones', the series is approaching its conclusion. Showrunner Ryan Condal has already announced that the currently in-development fourth season will be the last. The creative team, which includes executive producers Sara Hess, Melissa Bernstein, and Martin himself, is steering the series toward the extinction of the dragons and the end of House Targaryen's reign.

It is dark. It's funny. It's action-packed. It's emotional. And, of course, it has lots and lots of dragons.

— Ryan Condal
