Mother and daughter killed in Alicante home; father detained with knife wounds
A 55-year-old woman and her 21-year-old daughter were found dead Thursday in El Fenollar, Alicante. The father, suspected of the attack, is detained and hospitalized alongside another daughter who survived with knife wounds.
The incident
Guardia Civil officers found the bodies of a 55-year-old woman and her 21-year-old daughter at a home in the El Fenollar district of Alicante on Thursday evening. The father, presumed to have attacked them, was also at the scene with knife wounds, as was another of his daughters. Both the father and the surviving daughter were transported to a hospital. The family members are all Spanish nationals.
The emergency call
The surviving daughter called the 112 emergency number around 19:40 on Thursday to report the violence. When patrols arrived, they discovered the two deceased women and the two injured individuals. The father, identified as the suspected perpetrator, was detained by the Guardia Civil at the scene.
Investigation and background
The Guardia Civil are treating the case as a possible incident of gender-based violence. A search of the VioGén system, Spain's comprehensive monitoring database for gender violence cases, returned no prior complaints or records between the suspected attacker and the woman who died. The investigation remains open, and authorities have not released further details about the identities of those involved.
National context
Spain has recorded 25 women murdered by their partners or former partners so far in 2026. Since the official statistics began in 2003, the total stands at 1,366 women. Thursday's deaths in Alicante add to that toll as the Guardia Civil continue their inquiry into the circumstances.
