Deutsche Telekom acquires Polish fiber operators Fiberhost and INEA for €1 billion
Deutsche Telekom has agreed to acquire Fiberhost and INEA from Macquarie Asset Management for €1 billion, expanding T-Mobile Polska's direct reach to 1.4 million households.
Terms of the acquisition
On 17 August 2026, Deutsche Telekom signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares in Polish wholesale fiber operator Fiberhost and retail broadband provider INEA. The transaction values the business at approximately €1 billion (4.3 billion PLN). The sellers are Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 5, managed by Australian investment group Macquarie Asset Management, along with minority shareholders led by INEA founder Janusz Kosiński. The acquisition brings Fiberhost, INEA, and Wielkopolska Sieć Szerokopasmowa under the control of Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile Polska. In 2025, the combined Fiberhost group (Grupa Odin) generated 674 million PLN in revenue, an operating profit of 86 million PLN, and a net loss of 246 million PLN driven by financing costs.
We are opening a new chapter in the history of T-Mobile Polska. Our mobile network, nationwide backbone network, data centers, and access fiber infrastructure will now be supplemented with our own FTTH network covering 1.4 million households.
Infrastructure expansion and convergence
The transaction directly integrates Fiberhost's open fiber network with T-Mobile Polska's national infrastructure. Fiberhost manages a network of 50,000 kilometers reaching more than 1.4 million households, while INEA serves over 300,000 retail customers with broadband internet, television, and telephone services. Prior to this purchase, T-Mobile Polska operated roughly 40,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable, which it used primarily to connect its mobile base stations rather than delivering direct fiber-to-the-home connections. Since signing its first wholesale fiber access agreement in 2018, T-Mobile relied on third-party wholesale operators and rival networks to offer fixed broadband packages to roughly two-thirds of Polish households.

Market strategy and wholesale access
Owning physical residential fiber allows T-Mobile Polska to accelerate its shift toward becoming a fully integrated convergent operator. The company plans to bundle its 5G mobile network services with fixed fiber connections for individual and business clients. Fiberhost was separated from INEA's retail operations four years ago to operate as a wholesale provider. Under the terms of the sale, Fiberhost will maintain its open-access model, continuing to lease network capacity to third-party internet service providers across Poland under transparent and non-discriminatory conditions.
Combining strong competencies in mobile and fiber networks creates an even better foundation for delivering simple and reliable services to customers.
Regulatory review and timeline
The closing of the €1 billion acquisition requires formal regulatory approval from Poland's Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK). Until UOKiK issues its final antitrust clearance, INEA, Fiberhost, and T-Mobile Polska will continue to operate as independent entities with separate customer service operations. Macquarie has invested in the Polish market for over 20 years, having initially acquired INEA in 2017 before exploring sale options in late 2025. Subject to standard regulatory clearances, the parties expect to finalize the acquisition toward the end of 2026.
