Romanian police seize 4-meter cannabis plants near Crevedia and arrest two men
Romanian authorities seized 24 tall cannabis plants and 500 grams of processed drugs in Dâmbovița County, placing two 37-year-old suspects in 30-day preventive detention.
Discovery in the Crevedia forest
Romanian anti-organized crime authorities uncovered an outdoor cannabis cultivation site hidden inside a forest near the commune of Crevedia, located in Dâmbovița County. On the evening of 18 September 2026, police officers caught two 37-year-old men red-handed while they were actively maintaining the plants. The operation was carried out by investigators from the Ploiești Organized Crime Brigade (BCCO) in close coordination with prosecutors from the Ploiești territorial service of the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).
Investigators established that the two men had organized the grow site earlier in the year, sourcing seeds before planting them in the secluded forest area during the spring.
From the evidence administered in the case, it resulted that, in April 2026, following a prior agreement aimed at establishing a cannabis crop, the two individuals allegedly purchased a quantity of seeds, which they planted in a forest near Crevedia commune, Dâmbovița County. Subsequently, between May and September 2026, the two individuals watered and fertilized the resulting crop, and on the evening of 18 September they were caught in the act while caring for it.
Seizures at the forest site and home searches
At the forest location, officers discovered and confiscated 24 cannabis plants in various stages of vegetative development. The plants had reached heights between 2 and 4 meters at the stem, forming dense vegetation among the surrounding trees. Alongside the crop, investigators confiscated cultivation equipment, including manual spray pumps and various containers filled with biostimulants and liquid fertilizer used to support plant development over the summer months.

Following the arrests in the woods, investigators moved immediately to execute three residential search warrants at properties located in Crevedia occupied by the two investigated suspects. During the home raids, law enforcement officers recovered approximately 500 grams of harvested cannabis, an unspecified quantity of amphetamine, a grinding device, sums of cash in Romanian lei, and additional materials logged as judicial evidence to support the prosecution.
Judicial measures and inter-agency coordination
On Saturday, 19 September 2026, the two suspects were formally presented before a judge of rights and liberties at the Prahova Tribunal. The court approved the request submitted by DIICOT prosecutors and ordered a 30-day preventive detention measure for both 37-year-old men on formal charges of high-risk drug trafficking.
The operational action required inter-agency coordination across multiple regional security units. Judicial police from BCCO Ploiești and prosecutors from DIICOT received tactical and logistical support from officers of the Dâmbovița County Police Inspectorate, as well as gendarmes belonging to the Matei Basarab Mobile Gendarmerie Group based in Ploiești. The Prahova County Police Inspectorate publicly announced the complete results of the coordinated operation on Sunday, 20 September 2026.
