Teenager crashes into police car after high-speed motorcycle chase in Bucharest
A 17-year-old driving an unregistered motorcycle without a license was hospitalized and placed under investigation after colliding with a patrol vehicle in Sector 2.
Pursuit across Sector 2
The incident occurred on Saturday evening when a routine patrol crew from Police Section 7 identified an unnumbered two-wheeled motor vehicle navigating through traffic on Șoseaua Andronache in Bucharest. The motorcycle lacked any visible license plate or official registration markings, prompting the patrol officers to order a standard roadside stop. The 17-year-old driver ignored the lawful stop signal, accelerated rapidly, and attempted to evade the police vehicle by weaving through surrounding roads in Sector 2. Officers immediately initiated a pursuit with audible sirens and flashing lights activated, while dispatching alerts to draw all available field units in the immediate area into the operation. Throughout the chase, pursuing officers repeatedly used the acoustic loudspeaker system of their vehicle to command the driver to pull over.
Officers made a regular stop signal, but the driver of the vehicle did not comply with the instructions, increased speed, and continued moving along several streets in the area.
Collision at the intersection
The chase continued across several urban arteries before reaching the junction of Strada Izvorul Muntelui and Strada Gureni. A second police patrol car engaged in the operation entered the intersection with its acoustic and optical signals active. The fleeing motorcycle clipped the side of the intercepting police vehicle, throwing the teenager onto the asphalt upon impact. Surveillance cameras located in the area recorded the collision, showing the teenager falling to the ground immediately after hitting the patrol vehicle. According to eyewitness statements, the 17-year-old tried to pick up the motorcycle to resume his flight, and subsequently attempted to flee the scene on foot. Police officers from Section 7 closed in rapidly and immobilized the suspect at the intersection.
- Police Section 7 officers signal an unnumbered motorcycle to pull over before the rider accelerates away.
- Multiple police crews pursue the fleeing motorcyclist using acoustic and optical warnings.
- The motorcycle clips an intercepting police vehicle and the rider is immobilized after attempting to flee on foot.
- The injured 17-year-old is transported for medical care as toxicology tests return negative.
Medical transport and toxicology testing
The teenager sustained physical injuries during the crash and required medical attention directly after being restrained by officers. Emergency personnel transported the 17-year-old to the Grigore Alexandrescu Children's Emergency Clinical Hospital in Bucharest for examination and treatment. While the minor received medical care, investigating officers administered mandatory roadside tests to determine whether substances contributed to the collision. Both the 17-year-old motorcycle operator and the police officer driving the struck patrol vehicle were tested with breathalyzer equipment and specialized DrugTest devices. Both screenings yielded completely clean findings, registering a zero alcohol level and negative results for all prohibited psychoactive substances.
Verification and criminal investigation
Follow-up checks carried out in police databases revealed that the 17-year-old possessed no valid driver's license for any vehicle category. Furthermore, records established that the motorcycle was completely unregistered and not entered into official circulation. The Bucharest Police opened a formal criminal file against the teenager under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office. Investigators are examining three distinct criminal counts, comprising driving without a license, operating an unregistered vehicle on public roads, and bodily harm by negligence. Judicial authorities continue their inquiry to establish the sequence of events and decide on subsequent legal measures.
