Teen girl released from hospital after Brierfield street stabbing; man held on attempted murder suspicion
A 17-year-old girl stabbed in the neck in a Brierfield street attack has been discharged from hospital, Lancashire Police say, while a local man remains in custody on suspicion of attempted murder.
The attack
The 17-year-old was walking along Wood Street in Brierfield, Lancashire, when she was assaulted shortly after 3pm on Friday 12 June. Lancashire Police were called at 3.06pm to reports that a teenager had been injured. Armed officers attended the scene and the girl was taken to hospital for treatment.
This was a very serious incident but thankfully the girl's injuries were not life-threatening.
Police described the arrested man as a 30-year-old British man of Pakistani heritage. The BBC understands the victim is also of Pakistani heritage.
Victim recovery
The teenager received treatment and has since been released from hospital. She is recovering at home with the support of her family. Officers said she had been communicating with medical staff and the force, and that her injuries were neither life-threatening nor life-changing.
Suspect in custody
A 30-year-old man from Brierfield was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody. Lancashire Police stated a dedicated team of detectives is leading the investigation and there are no further outstanding suspects.

The force acknowledged the incident would cause concern locally and said extra patrols would be in the area over the weekend.
