Organizers raise alarm
One week before the Christopher Street Day in Bremen, the organizers publicly warned that the parade route may need to be shortened. In a press release, they stated that police do not currently have sufficient resources available to secure the full route. The organizers said this was based on information brought to the association, though they did not specify the source. Tens of thousands of people are expected at the CSD in Bremen on the coming Saturday.
Interior authority pushes back
Bremen's interior authority offered a different account. According to the interior department, police and organizers are still coordinating the exact route together. Per reports by the Weser-Kurier and buten un binnen, police have not yet made a decision on the length of the route. Interior authority spokesperson René Möller told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur that police will deploy as many forces as the situation requires.
The CSD has a high significance this year, and it will be well protected.
Möller emphasized that no concrete indications of a threat to the Bremer CSD exist at present. He described a possible adjustment of the route as part of normal planning and not a sign of a security gap. The authority does not comment on details of the security concept as a matter of principle.
Berlin attack looms over the event
The security concerns come four weeks after the Islamist attack at the edge of the CSD in Berlin, which turned deadly. That attack has heightened anxieties around Pride events across Germany. In Bremen, the situation is further complicated by a concurrent large event: on the same Saturday at 15:30, a DFB-Pokal first-round match between SV Hemelingen and Hannover 96 takes place at the Bremer Weserstadion, adding to the demand on police resources.

One week before the CSD, we are suddenly faced with the situation that our parade route may not be fully secured.
He added that organizers expect the quickest possible clarity and a political solution. The coming days will determine whether the full route can go ahead as planned or whether a compromise on the route length will be reached between the organizers and police.
