Blade Runner 2099 teaser debuts at Comic-Con as Prime Video sets November 25 premiere
Prime Video unveiled the first teaser for its live-action Blade Runner series at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, with Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer leading the cast. All eight episodes arrive November 25.

Prime Video chose San Diego Comic-Con's Hall H on July 24 to reveal the first teaser for "Blade Runner 2099," the franchise's first live-action television series. The project had been in the works since 2022, but production was delayed by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. A day before the panel, Amazon released a set of first-look images, building anticipation for the full trailer. The teaser presents a rain-drenched, neon-lit Los Angeles 50 years after "Blade Runner 2049," with the official logline describing a city "reborn, just not by humanity."
Cast and characters
Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh plays Olwen, a replicant days from the end of her lifespan. Hunter Schafer co-leads as Cora, a fugitive who takes on the identity of a Blade Runner to escape her pursuers. The two are forced to work together to track down a runaway whose secret threatens the city's fragile order. The main cast also includes Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke, and Maurizio Lombardi, with Katelyn Rose Downey in a recurring role.

Production and release
Filming took place primarily at Prague's Barrandov Studios in the Czech Republic, with additional shoots in Barcelona; Film United oversaw the Prague production. Jonathan van Tulleken, known for directing episodes of "Shōgun," helmed the first two episodes. Ridley Scott, who directed the original 1982 film, executive produces alongside David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger of Scott Free Productions. Showrunner Silka Luisa ("Shining Girls") developed the series. All eight episodes will be released at once on Prime Video on November 25.

Franchise roots
The "Blade Runner" universe began with Philip K. Dick's 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and Ridley Scott's 1982 film adaptation, which starred Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard. Initially a commercial disappointment, the film later gained status as a cyberpunk classic. A 2017 sequel, "Blade Runner 2049," directed by Denis Villeneuve, brought back Ford and introduced Ryan Gosling as replicant K. The franchise has since expanded into short films, an anime series "Blade Runner: Black Lotus," and now this limited series.
What's next
With the teaser now public, Prime Video will build its marketing campaign toward the November 25 premiere. The series lands as cyberpunk storytelling enjoys renewed interest on television; Apple is concurrently developing an adaptation of William Gibson's "Neuromancer." For Amazon, "Blade Runner 2099" is a cornerstone of its genre programming, following investments in high-concept sci-fi.
