Marco Bezzecchi edges Álex and Marc Márquez to lead Aragon MotoGP Practice

Bezzecchi sets fastest lap in Friday Practice

Marco Bezzecchi set the fastest lap during the Friday afternoon timed Practice session at MotorLand Aragón, establishing a new circuit record of 1:45.455 on his Aprilia. The Italian rider surpassed Gresini rider Álex Márquez by 0.010 seconds and Ducati factory rider Marc Márquez by 0.038 seconds in the final minutes of the session. All three frontrunners circulated below the previous circuit benchmark of 1:45.704, which Marc Márquez established at the track during the 2025 event. VR46 rider Fabio Di Giannantonio claimed fourth place with a 0.299-second deficit, while Fermín Aldeguer completed the top five at 0.440 seconds behind Bezzecchi.

Morning running and direct Q2 qualifying spots

The afternoon Practice followed a morning Free Practice 1 session where Marc Márquez topped the timing sheets with a 1:47.532 lap on his eleventh tour out of seventeen completed. Trackhouse Aprilia rider Raúl Fernández, who entered the weekend following a Grand Prix victory at Silverstone, finished second in FP1 by 0.035 seconds and later took sixth in the afternoon Practice session. Pedro Acosta suffered a front-end crash at Turn 12 during FP1 before recovering to finish eighth in Practice with a time 0.609 seconds behind Bezzecchi. Championship leader Jorge Martín recorded the seventh fastest time at 0.572 seconds back, while LCR Honda rider Johann Zarco secured the tenth and final automatic Q2 berth by 0.010 seconds over teammate Diogo Moreira.

I will say it again, I think Marc has an extra step, and not just because of the Ducati.

Márquez pursues points recovery at MotorLand

Marc Márquez entered the Aragon round positioned fourth in the MotoGP standings, 40 points adrift of championship leader Martín. MotorLand Aragón runs in an anti-clockwise direction where Márquez has won seven Sunday premier class races across 11 editions, including sweeps of both sprint and Grand Prix races in 2024 and 2025. Márquez holds 36 career premier class victories on counter-clockwise circuits, compared to 16 achieved by second-placed Casey Stoner.

After experiencing physical fatigue in his right arm during the previous race at Silverstone, Márquez explained that riding on a favorable layout reduces physical exertion.

It is a bit like in football, when you play well you get less tired, and when you are defending desperately and cannot string five passes together you get twice as tired.

Weekend schedule and Qualifying 1 field

The ten fastest riders from Friday Practice secured entry directly into Saturday's Qualifying 2 session, which determines the first four rows of the grid for both the Sprint and Sunday Grand Prix. Riders who missed the top ten cut must participate in Saturday morning's Qualifying 1 session, where only the top two finishers earn spots to join Q2. The Q1 field includes factory Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia, who placed 13th at 1.032 seconds back, and Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo in 14th. Márquez confirmed his intention to target the maximum available tally of 37 points across the 12-point Saturday sprint and the 25-point Sunday race.
