Badosa says she suffered for a year, vows never to mention Stefanos Tsitsipas again
Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa sharply criticized Stefanos Tsitsipas, describing their relationship as toxic and saying she and her entourage suffered for a year, ahead of Wimbledon.
Paula Badosa gave a blunt set of interviews from London, where she is preparing for Wimbledon, reopening the public conversation about her relationship with Stefanos Tsitsipas. The two tennis stars had a well-publicized romance marked by several breakups and reconciliations, but Badosa now says the chapter is permanently closed.
A year of suffering
Badosa claimed the difficulties went far beyond her widely known injury struggles. "There were not only injuries, there were other things behind the scenes, for which I and those around me suffered for a year," she told reporters. She described the period as very hard and added that returning to health gave her the courage to speak.
It was very difficult. Seeing myself healthy again gave me the strength to talk about what I went through and the fact that many people could relate to this story.
The Spanish player had previously called the relationship toxic, and she reiterated that other players on tour could confirm the situation.
No future mention
Badosa was explicit about cutting ties. "He is someone I will never mention again," she said, emphasizing that she wants to turn the page and feel freer.
I have my character. I let it go, I closed a chapter and I feel freer. What I want is to turn the page and never mention these people again.
She asked not to be questioned further on the matter, stating that all would come to light in time.
The viral video
Badosa also addressed a three-year-old clip that recently went viral, showing Stefanos's father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, glaring at her during one of his son's matches. "My friends sent it to me. My face says it all. This video is the summary of everything," she said.
This video is the summary of everything. Whoever was close and lived the situation knows what I'm talking about.
Her remarks come just days before the start of Wimbledon, where it is possible the two players could cross paths, though they are not expected to meet directly on court.
