RTVE takes 'Aquí la Tierra' in-house, replacing weekend hosts after best-ever season
Spanish public broadcaster RTVE will produce the long-running nature magazine entirely with its own staff from July 1, the first daily programme to complete a wider internalisation drive agreed with unions in February. The move will see weekend host Quico Taronjí replaced by meteorologist Marc Santandreu and lead to the departure of meteorologist Isabel Moreno and several reporters.
The veteran Spanish TV magazine Aquí la Tierra is set for its biggest transformation in over a decade when RTVE assumes full production on July 1, ending a long reliance on external producer Catorce Comunicación. The change follows a February agreement between the RTVE presidency and unions to boost in-house production, and it will serve as a test case for other daily magazines on La 1.
Personnel changes on screen
Weekend host Quico Taronjí exits after years fronting the Sunday edition. Meteorologist Isabel Moreno, who joined in October 2017 and initially expected to stay only three months, also departs, announcing the news on Instagram.
Compartir plató con Quico Taronjí fue un regalo insuperable.
She thanked colleagues and viewers, writing,
Muchas gracias a mis compañeras, compañeros y a toda la gente que nos habéis hecho grandes. Hasta prontito y, si no... hasta siempre.
Reporters Cris Tovar and Lucía-Asué Mbomío Rubio have also confirmed their exits, while RTVE says the reporter team will from July consist entirely of the broadcaster’s own staff. Taking the Sunday slot is Marc Santandreu, a meteorologist with RTVE since 2020 who has presented the science programme Curiosity and worked on the El Tiempo weather segment.
A ratings high point
The overhaul comes after Aquí la Tierra’s strongest season ever. In May 2026, the weekday edition averaged a 12.1% audience share (two points above the previous season) with 1.03 million viewers, while the Sunday broadcast led its slot with an 8.9% share and 823,000 viewers.

What internalisation means for RTVE
The production shift is the first concrete result of the February union agreement. Until now, RTVE paid Catorce Comunicación more than €9 million in 2025 to produce the programme. Workers have long complained that internal personnel were overlooked in favour of external production companies, and the corporation intends to apply the model to other La 1 magazines such as Mañaneros 360, Malas lenguas and Directo al grano.
Timeline of the transition
The overhaul unfolded over just a few months.
- RTVE president and unions agree to boost internal production and reduce reliance on outside firms.
- RTVE confirms Aquí la Tierra will be the first magazine to go fully in-house from July 1, announcing host and reporter changes.
- New stage begins: fully in‑house production, Marc Santandreu debuts as Sunday host, all reporters are RTVE staff.
