A man was arrested at Menorca airport on 14 June 2026 after allegedly assaulting his partner and attempting to leave Spain with their young daughter without the mother's consent. The incident began the previous night in a vacation apartment in Ciutadella.
The assault
The mother reported to the National Police in Ciutadella that a family argument erupted in the apartment. According to her account, the man punched her in the face while demanding she hand over the child. A female relative of the suspect then restrained the woman by the arm and neck. The victim chose to wait until morning to de-escalate the situation.
Discovery and report
When she woke up, she discovered that her partner, his relatives, and the child had left the accommodation. They took the luggage, available money, and the minor, leaving only the mother's passport behind. The woman immediately went to the police station to file a complaint.
Coordinated police response
Police activated an urgent coordination protocol between the Ciutadella and Mahón stations. The 091 emergency line facilitated the collaboration. Officers in Ciutadella provided a physical description and photograph of the suspect to agents stationed at Menorca airport. A preventive search was established across the terminals.
Arrest at the airport
Agents from the Mahón station, assigned to the airport, located the man in the boarding area, accompanied by the child and several relatives, moments before the flight was due to depart.
