Truck fire on A7 causes six-hour closure and €200,000 damage after tire blowout near Seesen
A truck caught fire on the A7 motorway between Echte and Seesen early Friday after a blown tire caused a collision with two other trucks. The six-hour closure triggered a long tailback.
What happened
In the night leading to Friday, a truck caught fire on the A7 heading towards Hannover. The incident occurred between the Echte (Northeim district) and Seesen (Goslar district) junctions. The 56-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle, collided with two other trucks, and came to rest on the hard shoulder where the truck burst into flames.
Cause
According to police, a blown tire likely caused the driver to lose control. The truck then hit two other lorries before stopping. No injuries were reported, but the damage is estimated at 200,000 euros.
Traffic disruption
The motorway was closed for six hours, leading to kilometres of congestion. The closure stretched from the Echte to Seesen junctions in the Hannover-bound direction.
Aftermath
Emergency services cleared the scene and the A7 reopened later on Friday. Police are investigating the exact sequence of events.
