
Greece weather: Temperatures to hit 37°C before weekend storms and stronger winds
Greece's national weather service forecasts sunshine and high temperatures for Friday, with localised afternoon showers and thunderstorms in mainland areas.
Friday's weather overview
Greece will see mostly clear skies on Friday, 3 July 2026, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY). During the warmest hours, temporary clouds will develop over the mainland. From midday to late afternoon, local rain or showers are expected, mainly in continental regions, with isolated thunderstorms possible in mountainous areas.
Temperatures will remain high despite a slight drop in the north. The mercury will reach 30 to 33 degrees Celsius in the Cyclades, northern Crete, the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese. In the rest of the country, maximum temperatures will range from 33 to 35 degrees, with several mainland areas seeing local highs of 36 to 37 degrees. Coastal areas will be slightly cooler.

Regional breakdown
In Macedonia and Thrace, clouds will increase around midday and afternoon, bringing local rain or showers and isolated storms mainly in the mountains. Winds will be northerly up to 4 Beaufort, temporarily turning southerly in coastal areas during the afternoon. Temperatures will range from 20 to 34 degrees, locally 35, with western Macedonia 2 to 3 degrees lower.
The Ionian Islands, Epirus, western Sterea and western Peloponnese will start mostly clear, but afternoon clouds over the mainland will produce local showers and isolated mountain storms. Winds will be west-northwesterly 3 to 5 Beaufort, strengthening locally to 6 in the northern Ionian Sea from the afternoon. Temperatures will reach 33 to 35 degrees in continental areas, with the interior of Epirus a few degrees cooler.
In Thessaly, eastern Sterea, Evia and eastern Peloponnese, generally clear skies will give way to afternoon clouds, local rain or showers, and isolated storms over the mountains of Thessaly and eastern Sterea. Winds will be variable 3 to 4 Beaufort, southerly 4 to 5 in the south. Temperatures will peak at 36 to 37 degrees.
Attica and Thessaloniki
Attica will be mostly sunny, with temporary afternoon clouds in the western and northern mountainous areas where local showers are possible. Winds will be variable 3 Beaufort, turning southerly up to 4 in the south and east during the afternoon. The maximum temperature will be 33 to 34 degrees, slightly lower along the coast.
Thessaloniki will see a few clouds increasing during the midday and afternoon hours, bringing local showers and possibly isolated storms in the surrounding mountains. Winds will be northwesterly 3 to 4 Beaufort, and temperatures will reach 34 to 35 degrees.
Weekend outlook
The weather pattern will shift over the weekend. On Saturday, rain is expected across most of the mainland, as well as in Evia and the Sporades, accompanied by a drop in temperature. Winds will strengthen, reaching up to 8 Beaufort in the Aegean on Sunday.
