About 15,000 evacuated as wildfire rages out of control in Castellón, Spain
A wildfire in Vall d'Uixó, Castellón, prompted the evacuation of around 15,000 residents across 16 municipalities on Saturday, with firefighters reporting the blaze is beyond extinction capacity.
A wildfire declared on Saturday in the Castellón municipality of Vall d'Uixó forced the evacuation of about 15,000 people from 16 municipalities and several urbanizations, according to the Provincial Fire Consortium. The evacuated localities include Aín, Alcúdia de Veo, Artesa, Alfondeguilla, Tales, Eslida, Vilavella, Artana, Sueras, Villamalur, Torralba, Ayódar, Fuentes de Ayódar, Chóvar and parts of Betxí and Vall d'Uixó. Residents of Betxí and Vall d'Uixó are under confinement orders.
The firefighting service described the blaze as "outside extinction capacity" and urged the public to avoid the area and follow instructions from security and emergency services.
