How the games are structured
Euromillones draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, and entries can come from Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, according to El Periódico. Most entries cost two euros, and each bet selects five numbers from 1 to 50 plus two stars. EL PAÍS lists 13 prize categories, from the top category of five numbers plus two stars down to the 13th category of two numbers alone. The sources disagree on the star range: El Periódico gives 1 to 11, while EL PAÍS and La Razón give 1 to 12. The first draw took place in Paris in February 2004, according to El Periódico, and La Razón dates the launch to 13 February 2004, by a consortium of lottery operators from Spain, France and the United Kingdom. Draws start from 21:00 on Tuesdays and Fridays, per EL PAÍS, and results can be checked on the official SELAE website.
