A 66-year-old man was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation after trying to put out a fire in the roof structure of his home in the Lissa district of Wiedemar on Saturday evening.
On Saturday evening, 25 July 2026, a fire broke out in the roof structure of a single-family home in the Lissa district of Wiedemar, in the Nordsachsen region of Saxony. The incident was reported to the police at around 9.30 pm.
The fire and the initial response
A 66-year-old man, who was inside the house, attempted to put out the flames himself before the arrival of emergency services. He was subsequently transported to a hospital with a suspected smoke inhalation injury. His condition was described as lightly injured. No other persons were reported hurt.
Firefighting operation
The local fire department deployed to the scene and brought the fire under control. No further complications were reported. The house is a single-family residence.
Investigation into the cause
As of early Sunday morning, 26 July, police had initiated an investigation into the cause of the blaze. The amount of damage to the property had not yet been determined.
