A2 motorway junction near Poznań to face weeks of disruption as resurfacing begins June 22

Drivers using the A2 motorway near Poznań will face lane closures, detours, and speed limits as Autostrada Wielkopolska launches a phased resurfacing of the Poznań Krzesiny junction, one of the region's busiest interchanges.

What is happening

Autostrada Wielkopolska SA will begin a comprehensive resurfacing of the A2 motorway junction at Poznań Krzesiny (kilometre 171). The work will replace the wearing course across the entire interchange, a crucial hub where thousands of vehicles converge daily from the motorway, expressway S11, and local roads. The aim is to preserve surface quality and boost safety.

The goal is to maintain the proper quality of the surface, which directly affects the safety of motorway users and travel comfort.

Timeline and phases

Preparations will start on Thursday, June 18, with the construction of temporary crossings between carriageways. These will allow traffic to be shifted during later stages without fully closing the junction. The main resurfacing work will begin on Monday, June 22. The project has been divided into several phases to keep the interchange partially open. The first phase will focus on the Świecko–Katowice and Poznań–Świecko ramps, together with a section of Krzywoustego Street in the Katowice direction, both before and immediately after the junction.

Subsequent stages will move to the Katowice–Świecko and Warsaw–Katowice ramps. On Krzywoustego Street, work will shift between the fast and slow lanes over time.

Traffic changes and detours

During the first phase, the Świecko–Katowice and Poznań–Świecko ramps will be temporarily closed. Traffic will be redirected through the remaining ramps of the junction where possible. On Krzywoustego Street, the north side will be narrowed to a single fast lane in the Katowice direction, while the south side will operate two-way traffic on one carriageway. A 50 km/h speed limit will be enforced throughout the works.

For phases that close the Katowice–Świecko and Warsaw–Katowice ramps, drivers coming from Warsaw and wishing to exit toward Katowice will be detoured via Krzywoustego, Klenowska, Kręglewskiego and Tychowski streets (near Kinepolis). Motorists travelling from Katowice on the S11 wanting to enter the A2 toward Świecko will also follow a signed detour. In some stages, drivers will be sent via the Koninko junction, which is already under strain from the construction of a road to the military airport in Krzesiny.

Who will feel the impact

Residents of south‑eastern Poznań and regular commuters who use the connections between the A2, the S11, and local roads will experience the most disruption. During certain phases, Krzywoustego Street will carry two-way traffic on a single carriageway, almost certainly causing lengthy queues and extended journey times. Travellers between Świecko, Warsaw, and Poznań will also face slowdowns. The operator expects the work to last at least five weeks.
