Volkswagen has registered more than 30,000 customer orders for its all-electric ID. Polo, significantly exceeding initial corporate projections particularly in its German home market. Order books for the subcompact electric model first opened in late April, but showroom display vehicles only arrived at franchised dealerships in early September. The strong customer demand alongside long-term planned factory capacity has led to extended delivery waiting times for newly configured customer orders. A company spokesperson stated that Volkswagen is working to ramp up manufacturing output incrementally, though the carmaker did not specify exact waiting durations because delivery dates depend on individual equipment packages. Customers seeking immediate vehicle handover can purchase pre-configured vehicles directly from dealership inventory without waiting periods.

Variant pricing and Spanish manufacturing

The baseline version of the ID. Polo carries a starting price just under 25,000 euros, equipped with a smaller traction battery and a lower horsepower rating. Buyers gained access to this entry-level variant in July, several months after sales officially commenced. At the initial sales launch in late April, Volkswagen offered only a higher-specification variant with a larger battery pack priced well above 30,000 euros. All ID. Polo units are manufactured at the Seat production facility in Martorell near Barcelona, Spain. Concentrating vehicle assembly at the Spanish plant is intended to optimize manufacturing costs for Volkswagen's budget-focused compact electric range.

Shared architecture across four brand models

The ID. Polo is one of four small electric vehicles developed together by Volkswagen Group, which have collectively accumulated more than 100,000 pre-orders across European markets. The family also includes the Volkswagen ID. Cross, the Škoda Epiq, and the Cupra Raval, all of which will be produced in Spain to maintain cost efficiencies. These four sister models share more than 80 percent of their parts and technological foundations, while featuring distinct exterior designs, driving dynamics, and brand-specific equipment features. Volkswagen brand chief Thomas Schäfer stated that strong order demand confirms the shared lineup matches customer expectations, noting that the company created four distinct vehicles that preserve the unique character of each brand while leveraging collective scale.

Long-term entry roadmap and group delivery volumes

To address the lower end of the market, Volkswagen intends to introduce an even more affordable model with the working title ID. Every1 in 2027, priced at approximately 20,000 euros. The vehicle will act as the electric successor to the VW Up microcar, which was retired from the company's lineup in 2023, and will be assembled in Portugal rather than Spain. The initial demand for the small electric family provides momentum as the broader Volkswagen Group works through declining sales volumes in major global markets. Across the entire group, worldwide deliveries fell by 6.3 percent in the first half of the year to roughly 4.1 million vehicles.
