Valencian authorities present 9 d'Octubre program honoring 750th anniversary of King Jaume I
Regional and provincial leaders announced the cultural calendar for the 2026 Day of the Valencian Community, featuring open exhibitions, civic events, and key infrastructure demands.
Institutional campaign for Nou d'Octubre
Regional authorities in the Valencian Community have presented the official program for the 2026 Day of the Valencian Community on 9 October. This year's commemorative cycle focuses on the 750th anniversary of the death of King Jaume I, also known as the Conqueror. Generalitat President Juanfran Pérez Llorca announced the institutional campaign titled "Un llegat infinit", which links regional history with modern identity across five million residents. The visual campaign features a contemporary poster created by Eugenio Simó and a promotional video produced by Esperanza Blanc from the Casanova agency. The design reinterprets the royal crest of Jaume I through geometric triangles symbolizing the union of Alicante, Castellón, and Valencia with the colors of the Reial Senyera.
Our identity is not a museum piece, but something that transforms, grows, and enriches itself with each generation without failing to recognize everything we have inherited, because people from Alicante, Valencia, and Castellón are tradition and modernity.
Schedule of cultural events and open doors
The Generalitat outlined a broad schedule of cultural, musical, and participatory events across multiple municipalities in the region. Programming includes band concerts, fireworks displays, children's activities, audiovisual projections, and regional food tastings. The official seat of the regional government, the Palau de la Generalitat, opened for public tours on 1 October and will welcome visitors through 7 October. In coordination with the anniversary, the Diputación de Valencia opened an exhibition titled "Honor o vergonya. La vida del rei Jaume I" in its Salón de Reinas. The exhibition remains open to visitors until 30 October, using the visual language of comic books to introduce the monarch's life and military campaigns to younger audiences.

Weather postponements and regional demands
Weather alerts across the region forced organizers to modify several scheduled public gatherings ahead of the weekend. Diputación President Vicent Mompó announced the postponement of outdoor events due to heavy rain forecasts starting Thursday afternoon. The delayed activities include the re-enactment of King Jaume I entering the city of Valencia and the Torneig del Rei tournament at the Plaza de Toros. Mompó confirmed that public safety remained the institutional priority and noted that new calendar dates will appear as soon as conditions improve. Other commemorative events remain on schedule for now, subject to meteorological updates from emergency services.
We have to demand what is rightfully ours: fair financing that does not suffocate us, the infrastructure we need, and absolute respect for our language.
Infrastructure priorities and agricultural compensation
Provincial leadership also connected the 750-year legacy of Jaume I to persistent economic, infrastructural, and linguistic demands. Mompó insisted on equal treatment from central authorities, arguing that Valencian citizens must defend their resources without taking a step back. Specific infrastructure requests include accelerated construction on the Mediterranean Corridor, expanded funding for the Cercanías commuter rail network, and the rail burial between Alfafar and Valencia. In addition, Mompó called for the northern expansion of the Port of Valencia, revisions to the national Coastal Law, and state compensation for farmers who lost land during severe DANA flooding.
