Two Pedestrians Injured in Bassenheim After Being Trapped Between Bus and Wall
A 38-year-old and a 39-year-old suffered leg injuries in Bassenheim on Monday when an incoming scheduled bus pinned them against a knee-high stone wall.
Incident at the transit stop
Two pedestrians sustained injuries on Monday in Bassenheim, located in the Mayen-Koblenz district of Rhineland-Palatinate, when a public transit vehicle approached their waiting area. The individuals, aged 38 and 39, were standing at a local bus stop waiting for scheduled service. As the regular-service bus pulled into the stop, both pedestrians became caught in the narrowing space between the incoming vehicle and an adjacent knee-high stone wall. The contact pinned both waiting passengers directly against the masonry before the bus stopped.
Medical transport to Koblenz
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene in Bassenheim to treat both victims. First responders confirmed that the 38-year-old and the 39-year-old sustained injuries to their legs during the impact. Paramedics stabilized both individuals on site and arranged immediate transport to the Bundeswehr Central Hospital (Bundeswehrzentralkrankenhaus) in nearby Koblenz. Medical teams at the Koblenz hospital admitted both patients for inpatient treatment and diagnostic evaluation of their leg injuries.
Ongoing police investigation
Police authorities initiated an investigation into the collision immediately following the dispatch of emergency units. Officers are working to reconstruct the exact sequence of events leading up to the incident at the bus stop. The inquiry focuses on the approach of the scheduled bus into the curb area and the circumstances that led to the pedestrians becoming trapped against the low wall. Police officials have not released preliminary determinations while the case remains open.
