Newcastle sign Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim for £43m as summer rebuild picks up pace
The 20-year-old Ivory Coast international arrives from Hoffenheim to fill the creative void left by Anthony Gordon's departure to Barcelona, with Sandro Tonali's £100m move to Tottenham funding further additions.
The signing
Newcastle United have completed the signing of Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim for a fee of £43 million, with add-ons potentially taking the total to around €50 million. The 20-year-old winger is the club's second summer arrival after goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen joined from Reims. Touré, who featured in three of Côte d'Ivoire's four matches at the World Cup before their last-32 exit to Norway, described the move as fulfilling a long-held ambition.
I'm very, very happy to be here. It was my dream since I was young to play in the Premier League for a big team like Newcastle.
Head coach Eddie Howe believes the Ivorian has significant room to grow.
We feel Bazoumana is a player with a really high ceiling. He's somebody who we believe can offer us something different. He's also got a lot of potential to unlock.
Financial context
The deal is funded in part by the €80 million sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona in May, which covered a revenue shortfall after Newcastle missed out on European qualification. The impending departure of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee rising to £100 million has further expanded the club's spending capacity under UEFA's financial sustainability regulations. Newcastle insist they will reinvest all proceeds from Tonali's exit into building a younger squad.

What Touré brings
Touré's rapid rise has taken him from Swedish side Hammarby, where he played in 2024, to Hoffenheim in February 2025 and now to Tyneside after just 18 months in the Bundesliga. Last season he made 32 appearances, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists as Hoffenheim finished fifth and qualified for the Europa League. Former Hammarby teammate Nahir Besara recalled his constant positivity.
It doesn't matter if it is a good day or a bad day. He always goes into the locker room with a smile, ready to work.
What's next for Newcastle
Howe remains in the market for a central midfielder to replace Tonali, with Freiburg's Swiss international Johan Manzambi a prime target. A new first-choice goalkeeper is also sought, with Manchester City's James Trafford high on the wish list. The club is also working on signing at least one full-back and potentially another wide attacker. Newcastle are determined to retain Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimarães despite growing interest from Arsenal.
