
Mother with toddler in her arms hit by reversing bread van in Moșna, Iași; father pulls child alive from under the wheels
A mother carrying her one-and-a-half-year-old son was hit by a bread delivery van reversing near their home in Moșna, Iași county. The father pulled the child alive from under the vehicle.
Accident in Moșna
A 35-year-old woman stepped out of her yard in Moșna, Iași county, on Saturday, 18 July, carrying her one-year-and-six-month-old son. Moments later, a bread delivery van reversed and struck both of them. The driver had stopped to deliver bread, then remembered he had forgotten some loaves and began backing up, according to the woman's partner, Marian Ioniță, who witnessed the entire scene.
She was caught under the vehicle. He left bread and forgot some bread. He remembered there. He reversed and hit the woman head-on. I pulled out the little child.
The impact trapped the woman beneath the van. Ioniță managed to pull his son out from under the wheels before emergency crews arrived. The child was conscious and had only scratches and a mild head injury.
Rescue and emergency response
The Integrated Dispatch ISU-SMURD-SAJ Iași received the 112 call and sent crews from Detașamentul 2 de Pompieri Iași, a qualified first-aid SMURD team, and the Voluntary Service for Emergency Situations (SVSU) Moșna. Firefighters extracted the woman safely; she remained conscious throughout. Because of the severity of her injuries, a SMURD air rescue helicopter was requested to transport her to Iași.
The woman was found conscious and handed over to the medical crews. She was transported by the SMURD air rescue crew.
The child was evaluated on site by the SMURD team and then taken by ambulance to the Sfânta Maria Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children in Iași.
Injuries and hospitalisation
Dr. Diana Cimpoeșu, UPU-SMURD Iași coordinator, described the woman's condition as polytrauma. She sustained an open fracture of the right wrist, a fracture of the left femur, and fractures of the lumbar spine without spinal cord involvement, along with multiple contusions. The patient was admitted to the orthopedics clinic at Sfântul Spiridon Hospital and will require orthopedic and plastic surgery on her hand.
It is a polytrauma with fractures of the left femur, right wrist, and lumbar spine, without spinal cord injury. She also has multiple contusions. The patient will be admitted to the orthopedics clinic and will need surgical interventions. The vital prognosis is good. We hope that functionally the evolution will be favorable.
The child, hemodynamically stable, had contusions on the head and limbs and a mild cranio-cerebral trauma. Doctors at Sfânta Maria Hospital confirmed his condition was stable.
## Investigation Police have opened a criminal case for bodily harm by negligence. The driver of the bread delivery van was not named in initial reports. The investigation will examine the circumstances of the reversing manoeuvre that led to the collision.
