Third set turning point
The 22-year-old Michelsen, ranked 46th in the world, entered the quarterfinal having won all 12 sets across his first four tournament matches. The Californian broke Tiafoe in the opening game of the third set and later served for the match with a 5-4 lead. Michelsen opened that service game with two consecutive double faults and failed to put a single first serve in play, allowing Tiafoe to break back and level at 5-5.
