Tech firms commit $2.4B to US science as Trump discloses Nvidia stock trades
The White House expanded the Genesis Mission across 14 federal agencies with $1 billion from Nvidia, while President Donald Trump prepared to award Jensen Huang the National Medal of Science.
Computing pledges for the Genesis Mission
The Trump administration announced on 8 October 2026 that commercial technology firms committed $2.4 billion in computing power to support federal research agencies. The announcement took place during the Science: A New Golden Age summit held in Washington, expanding the Genesis Mission to 14 additional federal departments. Nvidia committed resources valued at $1 billion over five years, allocating the compute capacity to higher-education research, quantum computing development, and government-focused cloud providers. OpenAI pledged $200 million through scientist training and token discounts, while Anthropic contributed $150 million in Claude platform access over three years. Amazon Web Services committed $50 million in cloud credits, alongside resources pledged by Google.

National medals and White House honors
Alongside the computing announcements, President Donald Trump scheduled the presentation of the National Medal of Science to Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang on Thursday. The medal was also slated for SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk and Google co-founder Sergey Brin during the White House event. Overseen by the National Science Foundation, the medal honors individuals who advance physical, biological, mathematical, engineering, or social sciences in service to the United States. Previous recipients earned recognition for discoveries in cancer detection as well as methods to protect national food supplies during prolonged droughts. Huang framed the $1 billion corporate commitment as an effort to speed research in healthcare, materials science, and energy security.
President Trump's Genesis Mission is launching a new golden age of American discovery. With a $1 billion investment, NVIDIA is putting advanced Super Intelligence in the hands of America's scientists to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine, energy and materials. This is how America turns scientific leadership into industrial leadership, and innovation into jobs and opportunity for generations.
Financial disclosures and stock transactions
A financial disclosure released on Thursday showed Trump bought as much as $1.6 million and sold as much as $1 million in Nvidia shares during August 2026. The document, which Trump signed on 17 September 2026, became public while administration officials evaluated federal policies that regulate the export of advanced computing chips. The Nvidia transactions were part of hundreds of trades registered across Trump's financial holdings in the same month. White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said third-party financial institutions direct the transactions independently to replicate equity indices, including the Schwab 1000. Administration officials stated that the portfolio structures prevent the president from directing individual buy or sell orders.

Federal partnerships and laboratory computing
The expanded Genesis Mission builds on an executive order signed in November 2025, with the Department of Energy directing the multi-agency research agenda. The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy marked the rollout of phase 2 project awards focused on microelectronics, accelerator design, quantum science, and nuclear fusion. Nvidia expanded its work with federal laboratories, having maintained research ties with national energy facilities for more than two decades. Current projects include the assembly of the Energy Department's largest research supercomputer at Argonne National Laboratory, along with seven other computing systems operating across Argonne and Los Alamos National Laboratories. The company previously donated a DGX GB300 system to the Naval Postgraduate School in July 2026 and deployed quantum software at Fermilab that cut design work from five months to three weeks in September 2026.
