Spain opens 879,213 Imserso subsidized holiday spots for 2026-2027 season
Spain's Ministry of Social Rights has scheduled the opening of 879,213 subsidized travel places for the 2026-2027 Imserso season, with bookings starting on 14 September.
Staggered regional schedule
Spain's Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and 2030 Agenda has announced the commercialization schedule for the 2026-2027 Imserso senior tourism season. Sales will run in two regional phases to prevent system overloads at booking agencies. On 14 September, preferred applicants in Andalusia, Aragon, Castile and Leon, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Melilla, Navarre, and La Rioja will gain access, followed by non-preferred applicants in those areas on 15 September. The second phase begins on 16 September for preferred users in Asturias, Catalonia, Castile-La Mancha, the Valencian Community, Ceuta, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Murcia, and the Basque Country, before opening to non-preferred users on 17 September. Between 14 and 18 September, applicants may only book from their province's quota based on the senior census, after which remaining places open nationally on 19 September.
- Preferred users in Andalusia, Madrid, and seven other regions begin booking
- Non-preferred users in the first group of regions access reservations
- Preferred users in Catalonia, Canary Islands, and nine other areas start booking
- Non-preferred users in the second regional group access reservations
- Remaining unreserved places open nationally across all provinces
Distribution of holiday packages
The 2026-2027 campaign offers 879,213 places under an extended contract, matching the previous season's total. Peninsular coastal tourism represents the largest share, comprising 440,284 places or 50.1% of the total program. Insular coast holidays to the Balearic and Canary Islands account for 228,142 places, which is 25.9% of the allotment, while getaway tourism covers 210,787 places or 23.9%. The getaway tier encompasses cultural circuits, nature tourism, provincial capital visits, and trips to Ceuta and Melilla. The ministry explained the evaluation process behind assigning booking priority.
The status of preferred or non-preferred accreditation is achieved after scoring applications, in accordance with the criteria set out in the regulatory order of the program and the call resolution.

Pricing structure and special allowances
The program maintains specific social protections, including 7,447 places priced at a flat rate of 50 euros regardless of the destination. These subsidized spots are reserved for pensioners whose income is equal to or below non-contributory retirement or disability benefits from Social Security, with Imserso funding the remaining costs. Additionally, the program reserves 2% of peninsular and insular coastal allotments for travellers accompanied by pets. Standard pricing follows rates published in the Official State Gazette in June, setting a 10-day stay in the Canary Islands at 464.72 euros, which increases to 564.72 euros during December, January, and February. Four-day provincial capital getaways begin at 132.91 euros, while booking a second or subsequent trip within the same season requires an additional 100 euro surcharge.
Accreditation and agency bookings
Imserso has initiated the dispatch of 2,938,156 accreditation letters reaching 4,602,255 eligible individuals across Spain. Each document includes an updated four-digit security key required for online reservations, alongside the recipient's assigned booking date and authorized companions. Permitted companions include a spouse, civil partner, or children with disabilities. Seniors booking through physical travel agencies do not need to use the digital code, requiring only their national identity card to complete transactions. The subsidized journeys will take place between November 2026 and June 2027.
