Spain issues orange and yellow weather alerts as torrential storms approach multiple regions
Spain's state meteorological agency AEMET has issued orange and yellow weather warnings across central, southern, and eastern regions, as incoming cold air and Mediterranean moisture threaten torrential downpours, hail, and localized flooding.
Widespread alerts across eastern and central Spain
Spain's State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued severe weather warnings covering multiple autonomous communities starting on Friday, 2 October 2026. The arrival of cold air in upper atmospheric levels, combined with an influx of humid air from the Mediterranean Sea, will generate heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and hail. The Region of Murcia faces orange alerts, with forecast rainfall rates reaching up to 40 liters per square meter within a single hour. The warnings in Murcia apply to Campo de Cartagena, Mazarrón, the Guadalentín Valley, Lorca, Águilas, and Vega del Segura between 10:00 and 20:00. In Murcia's Altiplano and Northwest zones, the orange alert will extend from 14:00 until 23:59.

Emergency activation and early disruption in Castilla-La Mancha
Regional authorities in Castilla-La Mancha expanded the Specific Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (Meteocam) across the entire autonomous territory at 13:00 on Friday. The plan had operated in alert status across Cuenca, Albacete, and Guadalajara since Thursday, but officials broadened it to Ciudad Real and Toledo following updated AEMET alerts. Up to 10:00 on Friday, regional emergency services registered 46 incidents, consisting of 38 in Cuenca, 4 in Albacete, and 4 in Guadalajara. Early disruptions included roadway flooding, water pools, and obstacles that forced the closure of the A-3 motorway in both directions until 02:00 on Friday. Regional emergency coordinators also sent ES-ALERT mobile notifications to residents in La Almarcha and Castillo de Garcimuñoz, while the AB-302 road remained closed between Montealegre del Castillo and La Higuera due to mud and water pools.

Regional forecasts in Castilla y León and Andalusia
In Castilla y León, yellow alerts will activate at 14:00 on Friday for the provinces of Ávila, Segovia, Soria, and Valladolid. Meteorologists forecast rain accumulations of 15 millimeters per hour and hail in these areas, particularly across the Soria plateau and the Iberian System. In Andalusia, AEMET established a yellow warning for the Sierra and northern regions of Córdoba province, specifically the Los Pedroches and Guadiato districts, running between 22:00 on Friday and 03:00 on Saturday. In Seville, although no official alerts were activated for the countryside, rainfall probability will reach 95% between 12:00 and 18:00 on Friday and remain at 95% on Saturday afternoon, accompanied by high temperatures reaching 33 degrees Celsius.
Weekend outlook and prospective DANA formation
Storm conditions are projected to intensify across the weekend, with torrential showers and hail expected in Madrid, Aragon, Castilla-La Mancha, the Balearic Islands, and Mediterranean coastal areas. The coastal and pre-coastal areas of the Valencian Community and the southern third of Catalonia will experience the strongest impact from Mediterranean moisture throughout Friday. AEMET forecasts that an isolated high-altitude depression (DANA) will break off over the Iberian Peninsula late in the weekend and early into the following week, maintaining unstable conditions and recurring showers across the country.
