Maja Słodzińska, 20, won gold in the women's high jump at the Polish Athletics Championships in Białystok, clearing 1.88 metres and completing a comeback after being expelled from the national team.
Maja Słodzińska won gold at the Polish Athletics Championships in Białystok with a jump of 1.88 m. The 20-year-old had been cut from the national team two years earlier after a severe back discopathy that sidelined her for almost the whole of 2024, and after she reached the semi-finals of the reality show "Top Model".
Returning to sport after a serious injury and participating in 'Top Model' was very difficult. I often heard that I chose easy money, that showbiz had gone to my head, that I would never return to a high sports level. I was expelled from the national team. I had to pay for my training camps myself, and I could only return to the national team after reaching a certain sports level.
She rebuilt her form, finishing fourth at the 2025 European U20 Championships and improving her personal best four times in the current season before taking the national title. "Today I am overjoyed. I fulfilled my dream," she said.
