Bad weather forces postponement of Romaria d'Agonia fireworks in Viana do Castelo
Organizers in Viana do Castelo postponed Sunday's closing fireworks and shut the craft fair as IPMA issued yellow weather warnings across 14 Portuguese districts.
Festival organizer VianaFestas postponed several events scheduled for Sunday at the Romaria d'Agonia in Viana do Castelo due to adverse weather forecasts. Among the affected events is the closing fireworks serenade, which will be rescheduled for a date yet to be determined.
In a statement published on social media on 23 August 2026, the association confirmed the disruptions to the schedule.

The weather also led to the closure of the craft fair. Organizers announced that the winners of the filigree and peddy paper competitions will instead be shared through the festival's official digital channels. The Vespers prayer at the Church of Nossa Senhora d'Agonia remained on the programme as planned.
The schedule changes coincided with weather alerts from the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA), which placed 14 mainland Portuguese districts on yellow alert for potentially heavy showers and thunderstorms. The warning covered Aveiro, Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, and Viseu.
