Record 6,916 candidates sit admission exam at Bucharest’s Carol Davila medical university
The written exam at Bucharest’s ROMEXPO complex started at 09:00 Sunday morning, with 6,916 high school graduates competing for 1,947 places across Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing programmes.
Record participation
For the July 2026 admission session, 6,916 candidates registered for 1,947 places, of which 1,291 are state-funded and 656 are tuition-based. The figure surpasses the 2025 cohort by 3,039 and the 2024 intake by 2,712, marking the highest number of applicants in the university’s recent history.
Admission 2026 establishes the highest number of candidates in the recent history of UMF Carol Davila, confirming the continuously growing interest in its study programmes and consolidating the university’s position as the leader of higher medical education in Romania.
The exam is being held in pavilions B1 and B2 of the ROMEXPO exhibition complex in Bucharest. For the 2026-2027 academic year, the university is offering 985 places in Medicine (725 budget, 260 tuition), 274 in Dentistry (190 budget, 84 tuition), 114 in Pharmacy (94 budget, 20 tuition), and 574 within the Faculty of Midwifery and Nursing (314 budget, 260 tuition).
Where the competition is fiercest
Candidate distribution reveals sharp contrasts in competition. The Faculty of Midwifery and Nursing attracted the highest number of applicants at 3,282, followed by the Faculty of Medicine with 2,727, the Faculty of Dentistry with 800, and the Faculty of Pharmacy with 107.

Among programmes that require a written test, the highest competition is at Dentistry, where 800 candidates are vying for 190 budget-financed places. At the Faculty of Medicine, 2,727 applicants are competing for 725 budget places, though 20 of those spots were already filled by national and international Olympians admitted without examination. The lowest pressure is at Pharmacy, with 107 candidates for 94 budget places.
A different path for nursing applicants
For the first time, all undergraduate programmes within the Faculty of Midwifery and Nursing are using a dossier-based selection process instead of a written examination, in line with the university’s approved methodology. The faculty’s educational offer includes General Nursing (172 places, 96 budget and 76 tuition), Midwifery (29 places, 12 budget and 17 tuition), Balneophysiokinetotherapy and Recovery (98 places, 33 budget and 65 tuition), Dental Technique (98 places, 33 budget and 65 tuition), and Radiology and Imaging (79 places, 42 budget and 37 tuition). The Ploiești extension provides an additional 49 places (33 budget, 16 tuition) for General Nursing and 49 places (33 budget, 16 tuition) for Balneophysiokinetotherapy and Recovery. The Nutrition and Dietetics programme at the Faculty of Pharmacy will hold its admission in the September session.
Tuition costs for 2026-2027
Annual tuition fees set by the university senate range from 8,000 to 19,000 lei. The Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry both charge 19,000 lei per year, the Faculty of Pharmacy charges 10,000 lei per year, and the Faculty of Midwifery and Nursing charges 8,000 lei per year.
